Ready on Day One

My lengthy business experience, 8 years of service to the community as a County Commissioner, plus service as your State Senator make me an excellent candidate to work for you!

Improved Commute

I am determined to identify real solutions to ease the trafffic congestion in our county.

More Transparency

I’m opposed to tax increases and will focus on ethics reform to increase accountability.

Better Education

I’m committed to making education a top priority for Rockdale County so that each child can maximize his or her potential.

From Rockdale, For Rockdale

JaNice has served residents in Rockdale as a GA State Senator at the Capitol and as the Post 2 Rockdale County Commissioner for 8 years from 2006-2014.  As your Chair of the Rockdale County Commissioners, she will provide a vision to make our community more vibrant with planned, controlled growth. JaNice will:

  • Restore the Ethics Committee and Water and Sewer Authority so Homeowners and Civic Associations will be able to have say so in their meetings, as well as implement a Citizens Financial Oversight Committee and Business recruitment committee with a diverse array of talented individuals with the skills to make our community better.
  • Work with the other commissioners to stop overspending and start balancing the budget!
  • Implement a hiring freeze to evaluate the jobs we do need.
  • Meet with Department Directors to see how we can reduce the budget and be more efficient.
  • Work to reduce turnover and make Rockdale an enjoyable work environment where people want to stay.
  • Stop lawsuits that are costing our county millions each year in settlements and increased insurance premiums.
  • Reduce the number of administrators with take-home county cars.

IF YOU WANT. . .

STRONG ECONOMY

A great quality of life is something we all desire. My goal for Rockdale County is to properly plan so that we can build a strong community that will continue to attract businesses, which will, in turn, help sustain our tax digest. I believe in smaller government with local control as much as possible.

MORE TRANSPARENCY

I’m oppposed to tax increases and believe in ethics reform to increase accountability. We need to ensure we have leaders in place who can effectively find solutions to key concerns like ethical challenges, unchecked growth, rising crime rates, and a lack of community cohesiveness. I will reach out to all citizens of Rockdale County and be efficient with your tax dollars.

BETTER COMMUNITIES

It’s essential we preserve the rich resources and heritage of Rockdale County while embracing changes that build upon our foundation and lead us to an even better County. We must continue to foster a sense of community where we have compassion for one another and work together for the common good.

More Votes Against Oz Than for Him

In the recent election, more people voted for change than for the status quo. With 7261 votes cast against Oz Nesbitt, it’s clear that the majority of voters are seeking new leadership. Janice VanNess is ready to provide the change our community needs: lowering taxes, stopping overbuilding, and helping seniors stay in their homes.

A History of Community Service

“I am JaNice VanNess and my husband, Ken, and I chose to move back to Conyers in 1999 from Peachtree City. We wanted a great place to raise our young family which has now grown to include Lawson (25), Samantha (23), and Emerson Elise (18). They are my motivation for making our community a wonderful place to live for all of us. I was born and raised in Rockdale and enjoyed volunteering during my teenage years, and my dedication has grown exponentially through the years.”

Rotary Club of Rockdale

I have been a member for over 10 years and I love their mission of service above self! Serving in the club is a great way for me to be with other like-minded individuals who prioritize others and want to make an impact in the community.

State of Georgia DFACS Board Member

Appointed by Governor Kemp in 2016 to the Department of Family and Children Services board. I am the Chair of the Child Welfare Committee where we prioritize the safety and well-being of the children across Georgia and work to strengthen families to improve the outcomes.

Rockdale Emergency Relief

I have served on the board for over 9 years to help address the issues residents in our community face such as hunger, housing  instability, financial training awareness, and making Christmas possible through the Empty Stocking Fund program. The summer lunch program and school break meals are in great demand.

Phoenix Pass

I have historically supported Phoenix Pass through actions, words, and financial support because I am passionate about the work they do to support single mothers and children. Their 2-year program allows single mothers to educate themselves at a higher level, and improve their financial security.

Soaring Heights

My family has supported the construction of the new facility, which will be located in the same complex as Phoenix Pass. It will allow affordable community living for adults with developmental delays and public servants, like teachers and first responders.

State Compensation Commission

Assisting the General Assembly in setting the compensation of constitutional state officers, including members of the General Assembly and full-time heads of state agencies, authorities, boards, bureaus, commissions, committees, and departments whose compensation is set by the Constitution, by law, or by Act of the General Assembly.

Chamber of Commerce

I have been involved with the Rockdale Chamber to promote my businesses and to connect with other owners and share resources to help grow their businesses. I am a Leadership Rockdale graduate and help coordinate the Leadership State Day.

Rockdale Baptist Church

My family has been a member of Rockdale Baptist since 2003 and I am thrilled to share that all 3 of our children chose to be baptized there! We love our mission-based church that is bible based and guides all kinds of great community projects.
